When the next CGPI print lands

The Canadian Grocery Price Index is collected and recomputed on a fixed weekly cadence. Prices are read every Thursday, with an automatic Friday catch-up run for any city that comes in below 90% store coverage. Each print covers the reporting week ending Sunday, bucketed on Canadian local time (America/Toronto).

Publishes: CGPI weekly — national, city and banner series — the headline index plus its nine category series, all 13 cities and 22 banners, free on /cgpi and through the public API.

Upcoming releases

The next 12 scheduled prints. The reporting week runs three days ahead of the collection date because weeks are labelled by the Sunday that ends them — the same date key used in the index data.

Publication rules

The rules that determine what appears on a release date, and what can hold it back.

Collection
Every Thursday at 08:00 UTC (04:00 ET in summer, 03:00 ET in winter). An automated pipeline reads publicly accessible retailer pages across 13 cities, 22 banners and roughly 160 stores for a fixed 50-item basket. The index chain is recomputed as soon as the run completes.
Catch-up
Any city finishing below 90% store coverage is re-collected the following Friday at 09:00 UTC, followed by a second recompute. That is a same-week revision, not an additional print.
Reporting weeks
Weeks are bucketed on America/Toronto calendar dates, run Monday through Sunday, and are labelled by the Sunday that ends them. That label is the date key in the published data, so it sits three days after the Thursday it was collected on.
Publication floor
A city × banner (× category) cell publishes only when at least 60% of its basket slice — and at least 2 items — is priced in both linked weeks. Cells below the floor are withheld rather than imputed, so a thin week produces fewer cells, not weaker numbers.
Series start
The published series begins June 2026 (first reporting week ending 2026-06-07). Movements are reported week-over-week and since inception only; the record is not yet long enough to support year-over-year comparison.
Revisions
Observations are append-only and the chain is recomputed deterministically from full history on every run. The most recent week can therefore be revised by its Friday catch-up; earlier weeks change only under a dated, versioned methodology recomputation.
Coverage limits
Walmart Canada and Costco are not covered. Giant Tiger is a general merchandiser and carries only part of the basket, so its coverage is partial.
